What is Tooth Removal?
When Does a Tooth need to be removed?
Tooth removal, or extraction, is done when a tooth is badly decayed, a root canal fails, the tooth is severely damaged, or gum disease is advanced. Extraction relieves pain and stops further oral problems. The procedure is usually simple and not very painful. Our dentists focus on your comfort and will discuss tooth replacement options if needed to keep your smile healthy and functional. Learn about your options: Replace Missing Teeth →

Typical reasons for Tooth Removal
-
Failing Root Canals
If a root canal doesn’t stop the infection or pain, the tooth may need to be removed. This is sometimes a recommendation made by a specilaist (endodontist) which refer to our office.
-
Wisdom Teeth
Wisdom teeth are removed when they cause pain, risk damage to other teeth, or are removed to prevent future problems. Our dentists will assess whether removal is needed and recommend the best treatment.
-
Severe Fractures
If a tooth has a severe crack or break that can't be fixed, it may need to be removed. Our dentists will use exams and X-rays to decide if extraction is necessary or other options exist to keep a tooth.
-
Gum Disease
Advanced gum disease can destroy a tooth and the tissues around it, sometimes requiring removal. Our dentists can give second opinions and temporary or replacement treatment options when gum disease causes tooth loss.

New Patients Welcome!
Preventative Dental Care
Avoid tooth loss, root canals, fillings and other restorative dentistry with routine maintenance including dental cleanings and check-ups.
Solve Small Dental Problems
In many cases, we can preseve tooth structure and prevent tooth loss by addressing problems when they are smaller. Even some fillings can be done without dental freezing if they are in the enamel surface of the tooth. Our conservative dentists will sometimes do a “watch” or “observe” to see if changes are occuring before recommending treatment.
Goals for Our Patients
Our goal for every patients once they receive dental treatment is to become a “Recare Patient” where the only annual needs you have during a year is a cleaning and check-up. Our dentists and hygienists will recommend preventative approaches so that you need as little dentistry as possible.
